Phar Med Tech Alumni in North America Celebrate 2nd Biennial Reunion

The University of San Agustin Pharmacy and Medical Technology International Alumni Association (USAPMTIAA) held its 2nd Biennial Meeting & Reunion (BMR) on July 20-22, 2018 in the New-York-New Jersey Metropolitan Area. Alumni from the United States of America and Canada came to enjoy the three-day event hosted at the Renaissance Newark Airport Hotel by Marriott in New Jersey.

Highlights of the 2nd BMR included a meet-and-greet party held during the Welcome Reception at the Church of the Holy Trinity Draesel Hall in New York City. This was sponsored by the New York-New Jersey alumni headed by Ms. Shirley Cordova-Chahu.

The University President Rev. Fr. Frederick Comendador, OSA was the guest speaker during the Breakfast with the President session held on Saturday morning. He presented the numerous remarkable changes and developments in the University in recent years. He also gave the alumni a glimpse of the future state-of-the-art Pharmacy and Medical Technology Building. Fr. Comendador underscored the importance of the University core values of Unitas (Unity), Caritas (Christian Love), and Veritas (Truth). He encouraged the alumni to strengthen more their ties with the University and to continue to support its ongoing projects. Fr. Comendador was joined by Fr. Manuel Vergara, OSA, Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Former Dean Victoria A. Sustento was the guest of honor during the Dinner Banquet. Aside from commending the alumni for their achievements in their lives and professions, she also gave them some advices on how to achieve lasting happiness in life. The most senior alumnus in attendance was Ms. Teresita Acanto Jalandoni-Cornejo, Med Tech 1965 (one of the very first Med Tech graduates of the University). The youngest attendee was Ms. Mary Bernadette Torrento, Med Tech 2008. The Class with the most attendees belonged to Med Tech Class 1984. They also won the Stars of the Night Award during the Dinner Banquet.

Other highlights of the 2nd BMR included several New York City tours such as the Manhattan by Night Tour which featured a walk through the spectacular New York Times Square, the Statue of Liberty Tour, and the Ground Zero and 9/11 Memorial Tours, among others.

Fr. Comendador inducted the new set of officers led by incoming President Mr. Jemm Fos, Med Tech 1992. Outgoing President Dr. Marlon Torrento had this to say, “Judging by the responses of the attendees, this is indeed a highly successful event. All we hear from the alumni are positive remarks. Everybody can’t wait for the 3rd BMR in Florida in 2020!”
